Women in Kentucky - JOURNALISM

Linda Boileau  (Franklin, b. 1958) 
Boileau is the only female editorial cartoonist in KY.  At the Frankfort State Journal, she often speaks and draws for the underdog.

Martha Comer
  (Mason, b. 1906) 
Editor of Maysville’s Ledger-Independent for 60 years.  She used her editorial column to urge open housing and equal rights.  Inducted into the KY Journalism Hall of Fame in 1995.


Alice Allison Dunnigan
 
(Logan, 1906-1983)
A native of Russellville who moved to Washington, D.C. where she became the first African American female correspondent to receive White House credentials.

Diane Sawyer  (Barren, b. 1945)  
The first female reporter on CBS’s “60 Minutes.” Her other credits include the “CBS Morning News,” “Prime Time Live,” and “Good Morning America.” Visit the

Helen Thomas  (Jefferson, b. 1920)
Has been traveling with presidents since 1961 and was the first woman officer of both the National Press Club and the White House Correspondents Association.
