Women in Religion
Gaylia Rooks: Gaylia Rooks made no detour from the journey she had plotted as a young girl. From the age of 16, she wanted to become a Jewish rabbi. When she graduated from Hebrew Union at Los Angeles, she was the only woman on campus.
Like other trailblazers, Gaylia Rooks welcomes challenges. Her path was not easy and her sense of connection to Jewish roots prompted her to lead trips to Israel.
At the Temple Adath Israel B’rith Shalom in Louisville, she and her husband are both rabbis and they provide opportunities for the members to renew and deepen their faith.
Check out her award-winning Web site and virtual tour of the Jewish Homeland.
